Building and educating

Expansion and modernization of ZUSOK (Solid Urban Waste Disposal Plant) in Warsaw is not only an engineering and logistic challenge, but also a communication one. As part of the contract, we systematically inform about the progress of works and engage in environmental education. We have set up the ZUSOK Development Information Center, we operate on site, we are active outside and online, and recently the Center has also turned into a film set. The ZUSOK extension is part of a big issue, namely the waste management system in Warsaw. After the expansion, ZUSOK will process 300 thousand tons of waste…

A year in the ZUSOK extension and modernization project

One year, rich in challenges, tasks and activities, has passed since the signing of the agreement, under which, on November 30th 2020, POSCO E&C became the general contractor of the project to expand and modernize the Solid Urban Waste Disposal Plant in Warsaw's Targówek district. We have assembled a team of nearly 100 high-class engineers and specialists, as well as young talents to best execute this project, so important for Warsaw and the environment.

See the change

It is only the seventh month at the ZUSOK (Waste Thermal Treatment Plant) expansion site in Warsaw. In August we reorganized the technological line, thanks to which the plant conducts its basic operations and we develop the project. These days we are dismantling the old bunker and unloading ramp, we are conducting a series of works aimed at the construction of additional production lines – No 2 and No 3. We are pouring foundations and reinforcing the terrain for subsequent buildings, we are putting up formwork and pouring walls, we are making a cable tunnel and even a mock up,…

Climate Alarm

We have been working and sharing our experience in Poland since 2012. We have built a modern incineration plant in Krakow, and for 11 months we have been expanding and modernizing the Warsaw ZUSOK. We carry out our projects with respect for the environment 🌄. Today, science and everyday life show that the degradation of the Earth's resources is deepening and affects all of us. Civilization offers sophisticated amenities, and at the same time loses basic, natural assets that cannot be recovered. Today at noon, Łódź, Gdańsk and Warsaw will sound the sirens. It's a Climate Alarm, a signal to…

Tearing down the bunker

In the project to expand the Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Plant in Warsaw (ZUSOK), construction and modernization works are carried out in parallel with the technological activity related to waste processing. In the second half of September, after remodeling the technological path of the K1 line, we started the demolition of the old bunker. This is a spectacular and very dangerous stage of the work. Step by step, using specialized equipment, we cut out pieces of the structure and demolish the bunker walls to prepare a place for the erection of a new building.

2nd shut down completed!

As planned, we have delivered the works in the Warsaw ZUSOK on the 2nd shut down in a timely manner. After starting up the conveyor belt for feeding waste and firing up the boiler, the plant starts the technological process. At this stage, new elements of technology, made as part of the extension and modernization of the site, have already been included in the processing of waste.

2nd shut down

We are consistently implementing the schedule to expand and modernize the Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Plant in Warsaw (ZUSOK). On a daily basis, we work in the conditions of an operating plant with an active technological line. The project is therefore more complicated to handle. There are works that requires downtime to complete, such as the work on a bunker that we have just started. – In the ZUSOK expansion and modernization project, the 2nd shut down has started – said Site manager Henryk Mleczko, summarizing the status of the project as of August 17, 2021. – The thermal waste…
