Today Poland is full of donuts! It is said that ‘who can eat, can work’, so we also celebrate Fat Thursday and eat donuts! The tradition originates from pagan times and symbolises the turn of winter to spring. For centuries, the welcome of spring was celebrated with fatty foods – meat, bigos and finally bread donuts stuffed with pork fat or liver. We’ve strayed slightly from the source, as our donuts have jam and pistachio mousse inside, but it’s certainly both fatty and delicious as should be! 🍩🌿
