We have been in Poland since 2012, forming a team rich in diversity and open to the needs of communities with very important and difficult social roles. We share our potential, dedicate our attention and time to matters of importance to the communities among which we work. In Warsaw, at 8 Skaryszewska Street, there is a special institution – Zespół Szkół Specjalnych No. 89 for the youth with disabilities. In this school, 170 students aged 15-24, with various, including very serious manifestations of disabilities, receive specialized assistance and opportunities for development, but also acceptance and warm care. The work of the 70 teachers and assistants is directed at best recognizing the talents and interests of each pupil, preparing them on such a foundation to function in adulthood. Many of them, thanks to the skills and competencies acquired at school, also take up jobs.
As part of our volunteer work, we visited the school, met with teachers and students, saw the studios where young people develop their talents and learn new things. Most importantly, we felt the atmosphere, quality and importance of this place for the alumni and their families. An extraordinary team has gathered here, who, with heart and understanding, patiently introduce young people to independence as much as possible.
To support this community, we have donated an alternative communication support tool. It will enable educators to reach out to students in a way that is best suited to individual perception. The school has many needs, and there are many such institutions. In our opinion, it’s worth looking wider, helping and being proactive…
