The Dan Region Association of Towns brings together six Israeli towns: Tel Aviv-Yafo, Bnei-Brak, Bat-Yam, Givatayim, Holon and Ramat-Gan. It is the largest and most advanced waste sector organisation in Israel. Operating through the Hiriya Recycling Park (HRP), which dates back to 1952, it manages 1/4 of all waste generated in the country. In addition to the aforementioned cities, another 30 municipalities use HRP’s services, making up the 2 million-strong community of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. The Park accepts 4,000t of municipal waste and 1,000t of construction waste per day, delivered by 1,200 trucks. In 2023, a state-of-the-art sorting and recycling facility was opened at the Park.
The time has come for the next step – the Dan Region Association of Towns is preparing to build a municipal waste incineration plant. In this connection, its representatives visited the Warsaw Power Plant under development by POSCO E&C. The aim of the meeting was to gather experiences and good practices from the plant, which has been processing mixed waste for Warsaw for 25 years, and to understand the purpose and benefits of its expansion and modernisation.
